Therapeutic Foster Care
About Treatment Foster Care: 

This program is designed to provide temporary out of home placement to children whose families are experiencing problems in the family system and the child is unable to remain in the home safely. 

Services Provided

  • Temporary placement of a child within a licensed TFC home compatible with the child.
  • Case management services to the child in placement
  • Support and Education for the TFC parent and child
  • Facilitate development of self-care, and age appropriate living and social skills.
  • Identification of the strengths and needs of the TFC parent and child, through observation and the CANS (Child Adolescent Needs and Strengths) assessment tool.
  • Promotion of community resources
  • Collaboration with multidisciplinary agencies in providing a treatment plan that is holistic and addresses the child’s needs with immediate, as well as long term goals.
  • Respite care through interagency collaboration with our Psychiatric Rehabilitation Program
  • Assessment, evaluation, and licensing of persons interested in becoming a foster care parent
  • Ensuring that a child’s placement is safe and provides a nurturing environment.

  • Model a healthy lifestyle
  • Provide and promote structure and reasonable discipline
  • Assist with medical and educational  needs
  • Provide transportation to and from appointments
  • Provide care and guidance


Staff

The TFC services are delivered under the direct supervision of our Program Director, Debbie Smithson, LCSW-C. She has her Masters in Social Work with a concentration of Families and Children from the University of Maryland at Baltimore. Case manager, Tisheika Warner is a Licensed Social Work Associate, with a Bachelor’s degree from Salisbury University. She works diligently to provide case management services to both the TFC and the Foster Parent/Families.

 
Daria Parsells, relocating from upstate New York, joined the Maple Shade staff in October of 2011 after receiving her LGSW in MD. While in NY she provided therapeutic services to families involved in the foster care system working to prevent placement and to facilitate the reuniting of families after placement. Daria completed her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Mathematics at the State University of NY at Albany and went on to teach in the NJ Public School system before moving on to work with inmates at the Somerset County Jail in Somerville, NJ. In December 2008 Daria obtained her MSW degree from the State University of NY at Albany and went on to become a Licensed Master Social Worker. While at Maple Shade Daria will be working as a therapist in the out patient mental health clinic and as a Case Manager in the Therapeutic Foster Care Program.
