Clinical Directors 



Angela Bopp is a Salisbury University alumni. Accepted into the advanced standing Masters program and graduated with a Master’s degree in social work in 2005.  Angela received her LCSW-C licensure in 2008.  In 2010 became certified with the Board of Social Work Examiners to be a supervisor for Licensed Graduate Social Workers (LGSW).  She works as a liaison with Salisbury University as a field supervisor for Master level students.  Angela has been working at Maple Shade since June 2005.  She began as the therapist working with clients who resided at three of Maple Shade’s Therapeutic group homes.  Angela had the opportunity to develop and implement a therapeutic milieu in the residence that was based off of Dr. Ross Greene’s work in “The Explosive Child”.  She continued her journey with providing school based therapy in the Wicomico County School system. Angela was promoted to Clinical Director of the Wicomico County Mental Health Clinic in 2010.  She now sits on the Wicomico County Multidisciplinary Committee.  Angela continues to serve children and adolescents while providing supervision and support to therapists working in the out patient mental health clinic. Jessica Holloway joined the Maple Shade staff in May of 2007. She provided therapeutic services to the children and families in the Somerset County area. She completed her Bachelor’s of Arts Degree in Psychology at Salisbury University in 2002. In May of 2004 she graduated from Salisbury University with her Master’s degree in Social Work. In October of 2009 she became licensed as a LCSW-C. She served as Supervisor for the Somerset County Maple Shade Clinic from 2008- 2010. At the current time she is the Clinical Director for Somerset County. She has worked in a variety of settings with children, families and groups. Specific areas of interest include: children and families, crisis intervention, and behavior management. Shanda Ward is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor. 
 The positions that she currently holds are Therapist, Respite Supervisor, Clinical Service Manager, and senior member of the Clinical Management Team.    Shanda has been an employee of Maple Shade since 1994.  She graduated from the University Of Maryland Eastern Shore in 1994 with a Bachelors of Science in General Studies, and with a concentration in Special Education.  She also holds a Masters in Science degree from Wilmington College in Community Counseling. Therapists

Sheryl Johnson received her Master’s degree from Salisbury University in 2007. She completed her Bachelor’s level internship with Dorchester County Department of Social Services in Adult Services. She then completed her Master’s level internship at Vision Quest/Morning Star Youth Academy working with adolescents with behavioral and psycho-social concerns. Upon completion of her degree she was employed at Con-med/Correctional Mental Health Services. Ms Johnson joined Maple Shade Youth and Family Services in May of 2009 as a part time therapist can became a full time therapist August 2010.   In June 2010, Ms Johnson received her LCSW-C licensure. Ms Johnson is Level One Certified in Rational Living Therapist and is also certified in Cognitive Processing Therapy. Ms Johnson serves children, adolescents, adults and families in the outpatient mental health clinic and in school based settings.

 
Valerie Anderson is a Salisbury University alumni. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Salisbury University in 2007. She was accepted into the Master’s of Social Work program in 2008. Valerie completed her foundation Master’s internship with the Easton Dialysis Center working in Case Management. She then completed her concentration Master’s internship with Maple Shade Youth and Family Services working as a community based therapist. Valerie graduated with honors from Salisbury University with a Master’s of Social Work degree. Upon completion of her degree she became a Licensed Graduate Social Worker and was employed with Maple Shade Youth and Family Services as a therapist in Wicomico County. Heather Shelton joined our staff as a therapist in April of 2009. She provides school based mental health services in our Crisfield office. She completed her Bachelor’s of Arts in Social Work with a minor in Psychology from Salisbury University in May of 2003. In May of 2005 she graduated from Salisbury University’s Master of Social Work program. During this time she was president of Phi Alpha National Honor Society of Social Work Students, inducted in to Psi Chi National Honor Society in Psychology, a nominee for Pi Gamma Mu International Honor Society in the Social Services, on Salisbury University's 
Deans List and received the State of Maryland’s Governor's Volunteer Services Certificate of Appreciation and Certificate of National Service. In August of 2009 she became licensed as a LCSW-C. She has worked in a variety of settings with children, families and groups. Her theoretical perspective is eclectic, but she primarily likes to use cognitive-behavioral therapy using a strength based and client centered approach. Specific areas of interest include: children and families, crisis intervention, behavior management, mood disorders and resiliency. She is located at Woodson Elementary during the school year.
 

Tonya joined our staff as a therapist in May of 2010. She provides school based mental health services in our Crisfield and Princess Anne office. She completed her Bachelor’s of Arts in Social Work from Salisbury University in May of 2003. In May of 2009 she graduated from Salisbury University’s Master of Social Work program. During this time she interned at Wicomico High school in the behavioral management class and also the mental health unit in PRMC hospital. In October of 2010 she became licensed as aLGSW. Her main interest of population is adolescents and teenagers using primarily cognitive behavioral therapy and reality based therapy. Ashley Phillips joined the Maple Shade staff in July of 2011 as a school-based therapist in Somerset County. She graduated from Salisbury University with her Masters in Social Work in May 2011 and received her Graduate Social Work License (LGSW) in June 2011. She specializes in youth and adolescent populations. Other areas of interest include: families, crisis intervention, and behavior management. Kevin Marsh joined our Maple Shade staff in 2009 as a part time school based therapist in Somerset County. He holds a clinical social work license and works primarily with adolescent boys. Jody Caudell joined the Maple Shade team in 2010 as a part time school based therapist in Somerset and Wicomico Counties. She has a Master’s degree in Social Work and holds an LGSW license. She specializes in family intervention and behavioral management. [jcaudell@maple-shade.org]
 
Billie Custer joined the Maple Shade team in 2009 as a part time therapist in Somerset County. She is a licensed Clinical Social Worker with 20 years experience in the field. She serves adults and adolescents in the Princes Anne area. Jerilisha L. Smith is a Licensed Graduate Social Worker who obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology on May 21, 2000 from University of Maryland Eastern Shore. Ms. Smith furthered her education and graduated with a Master’s Degree in Social Work in December, 2004. Over the past twelve years, she has provided Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services through the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene and Maryland Department of Juvenile Services.   Mrs. Smith specializes in treating adolescents and adults who also are faced with legal difficulties, gang involvement, criminal behavior, female adolescents with unique needs and trauma survivors. Mrs. Smith has spent multiple years providing services in adolescent and adult correctional institutions, treating and preparing clients for more intensive treatment programs or re-integration into the community. Jerilisha has completed the Trauma and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder certificate program through the Justice Resource Institute of Boston Massachusetts. Mrs. Smith also completed the nationally recognized Gender Responsive Certificate Program

Dr. Teresa Laird is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor and Professor in the states of Maryland, Virginia, Oklahoma, and Texas. She received her doctoral degree from Texas Southern University in Houston, Texas. Her specialties include working with individuals, children, and families with anxiety, depression, ADD/ADHD, bi-polar and adjustment disorders. Teresa’s approach is primarily with the Adlerian practice and theory of human nature and personality. In, addition, her use of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy serves both children in schools and the community. Teresa offers both clinical experience and academic research in family structure and social relationships. Teresa is a frequent presenter, attends continuing education and seminars/workshop to update current trends and her therapeutic foundation.  Teresa philology is “all life’s challenges; our answers are already within us, but needs validation.” [tlaird@maple-shade.org]


 

Before becoming a social worker, Blair was an environmental educator with local environmental non-profits and an experiential educator at a local challenge (ropes) course.  Once obtaining her Master of Social Work degree, she has had the opportunity to work with many populations.  She started her social work experience at a transitional homeless shelter as a case manager.  From there she worked as a Treatment

 Coordinator for youth housed in therapeutic foster homes.  Since that time, she has worked at two outpatient mental health clinics coordinating a partial hospitalization program and providing clinic and school-based therapy to children and adolescents.  She’s also been able to work in residential settings as therapist at a residential home for youth with both mental health and substance abuse issues and as a therapist at a residential treatment center.  Both of these positions gave her extensive experience working with youth in the juvenile justice system, especially those with Conduct Disorder and Personality Disorders.  She is currently certified as a Licensed Graduate Social Worker in the State of Maryland.  By mid-Fall 2011, she will have satisfied all requirements for her certification as a Licensed Certified Social Worker- Clinical in Maryland and as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Delaware. Jason Sammons receive his Master’s Degree in Social Work from Salisbury University in 2007.  Jason received his LCSW-C in 2011.  Jason joined Maple Shade’s clinical staff in July of 2011, after working over 9 years with the State of Maryland.  Jason has experience working with the developmental disabilities population and families through In Home Family Service programs.  Jason uses Cognitive Behavioral Therapy in practice with the patients he serves
