Wicomico County Health Department data demonstrates a need for High school students to be outreached utilizing current programs in the area. By the end of high school, the majority of adolescents (almost) 60% of Wicomico County teens have had sex. The data also shows that only half reported that they used a condom the last time they had sex.  Consequentially, Adolescents in Wicomico County experienced higher than the national average rates of sexually transmitted infections and unintended pregnancy. Thus in 2018, there were 300 cases of chlamydia, 109 cases of gonorrhea, and 79 births among Wicomico County teens. With respect to the data on the sexual activity of high school students. 


Maple Shade Youth & Family Services has reached out to our caseload to deliver the True You curriculum in collaboration with the Wicomico Health Department; with the aim to help adolescents reach their optimal health by giving them the skills to prevent sexually transmitted infections and pregnancy, develop healthy relationships, and set life goals.
