Wicomico County Health Department data demonstrates a need for High school students to be outreached utilizing current programs in the area. By the end of high school, the majority of adolescents (almost) 60% of Wicomico County teens have had sex. The data also shows that only half reported that they used a condom the last time they had sex. Consequentially, Adolescents in Wicomico County experienced higher than the national average rates of sexually transmitted infections and unintended pregnancy. Maple Shade Youth & Family Services has reached out to our caseload to deliver the True You curriculum in collaboration with the Wicomico Health Department; with the aim to help adolescents reach their optimal health by giving them the skills to prevent sexually transmitted infections and pregnancy, develop healthy relationships, and set life goals.
